About the service
The 0-19 Service provides a range of community-based nursing and mental health services to children aged 0-19-years-old and their families across Hampshire and Isle of Wight.
Our services aim to improve outcomes for children and their families through the delivery of the UK Government Healthy Child Programme. This offer will look different depending on what area of Hampshire you live.
Health Visitors are here to help you and your family from the antenatal period until your child goes to school. We see some families more regularly if you need more help, which you can request at any point. Our health visiting teams work with families to support parents/ caregivers in their child’s emotional, social and physical development, support healthy lifestyles. We may see you at home or in a community venue.
Our service offers the following contacts:
- Antenatal contact (Usually from 28 weeks' gestation)
- New birth contact (The new birth visit is carried out approximately 10 to 14 days after your baby is born)
- Postnatal contact (Usually around 6-8 weeks)
- 3-4 month group contact (to learn about your child's health and development and about being a parent)
- Health Review 1 (HR1 between 9-12-months)
- Health Review 2 (HR2 at 2 years plus)
What is the healthy child progamme?
The Healthy Child Programme is a programme designed from evidence by the UK Government to support the public health of children, young people and families. The programme is split in to six key areas.
- Supporting you in becoming a parent
- Supporting maternal mental health and family mental health
- Supporting breastfeeding
- Supporting your family to live a healthy lifestyle through nutrition and exercise
- How to manage minor illnesses and avoid accidents
- Supporting your child to be ready to learn at 2, and ready for school at 5
Specialist Community Public Health Nurses 5-19 are public health professionals who work with school aged children and their families, assessing individual and community health needs to enable children to attain their optimum health and educational potential.
If your child attends a Southampton, Portsmouth or Isle of Wight school, visit Family Assist website.
If your child attends a Hampshire school (excluding the above locations), visit Health4kids (primary) or Health4teens (secondary) for further health advice and information.
Family Assist is an easy-to-use online portal that brings together trusted information, advice and local support for parents and families during pregnancy and the early years.
Instead of being given lots of leaflets and mixed messages, families can access clear, reliable information in one place, anytime, on their phone, tablet or computer. All content is written or approved by local health professionals, so you can feel confident the advice is up to date and trustworthy.
What Family Assist offers:

A personalised child record that shares the right information at the right time, from pregnancy onwards. Important emails are sent when they are most relevant to you and your child's life, and family and friends can be included by inviting them to join the record so everyone supporting your child stays up-to-date and informed.

An Ask a Question feature that lets you contact local health visiting and school nursing teams directly, with a response within 2 working days.

A wide range of trusted information in the online library to guide you through parenthood, including local parent education and support options, healthy eating for you and your child, child development and behaviour, and much more.
By keeping informaiton simple, timely and consistent, Family Assist helps families feel informed, supported and confident in giving their child the best start in life.

ChatHealth is a confidential text support service for parents, carers, families and young people in Hampshire (currently excluding Southampton, Portsmouth and Isle of Wight).
The health visiting and school nursing teams have a wealth of experience and are trained to support with a wide range of health and wellbeing issues. As well as giving advice, the team can signpost to appropriate services.
