We are thrilled to have been honoured with a King's Award for Enterprise for Promoting Opportunity (through social mobility). This award category recognises businesses who have identified that there are groups of individuals who struggle to access jobs in their sector. We demonstrated how our innovative programme offers opportunities and how we have supported young people on the Isle of Wight to improve their job skills and chances of finding work.

How are learners recruited?
Every year the CfYP Team attend local events, assemblies and careers fairs in schools to promote the programme. Any young person who is interested is encouraged to apply via HTP’s website. We host Selection Days where learners are recruited based on Trust values.
The pre-apprenticeship is a four to six month programme running from September - February each year. This comprises of:
- A comprehensive induction
- Clinical Leaners rotate around Allied Health Professions, Community Nursing and Mental Health placements spending 2 weeks (or 6 working days) in each area. This starts around the last week of September each year.
- Business Learners rotate around multiple administrative teams
- Estates Learners rotate around various teams including catering, housekeeping and stores
- HTP will support learners with overarching employability skills development and the Care Certificate during this time in addition to Maths and English qualifications as required.
Please note, placement opportunities will vary year on year and on location of the programme.
After successful completion of the pre-apprenticeship, learners move onto an 18-month apprenticeship starting in March each year. During this time apprentices are employed in fixed term posts by the Trust and are contracted to a 35-hour working week, with 7 hours of this time protected for off the job learning.
During this time, apprentices will be observed by HTP during their work, and they will work towards either:
- Level 2 Adult Care Worker
- Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker
- Level 2 Customer Service
- Level 3 Business Administration
Apprentices will be supported to apply for substantive posts towards the end of their fixed-term contract.
*Qualifications offered may vary depending on the needs of participating learners and teams supporting apprentices.
"I am so grateful for this opportunity. The programme has well and truly changed my life in every aspect. I have been able to experience things other people my age probably will not for the rest of their lives. From being at school, your treated as a statistic and while being here you are treated as an individual and can do things that’s you wouldn’t have been able to do in other courses that’s available for our age. The teams put in so much work and effort for us and I think this should really be appreciated because it wouldn’t be what it is without their support and encouragement." - Roxy - Cohort 3
"I have loved every second of the pre-apprenticeship as it really developed me as a person and made me believe that I am capable going forward in my career. I just want to say thank you to everyone part of this wonderful programme. These last 6 months have really turned my life around...Everyone has worked so hard supporting me and my cohort and it has really paid off. I hope this programme goes on and that it helps other young people just like me!" - a CfYP learner

As a result of this programme, 82% of learners are now in permanent roles within the NHS, with others continuing to work in Care or moving onto Higher Education.
