This is an interactive handbook introducing psychological support for carers whose loved ones are under the acute pathway.
It is formed of four chapters:
Chapter 1: Psychoeducation about common difficulties
(Emotional dysregulation, window of tolerance, unusual experiences, lethargy spiral).
Chapter 2: Self-care – Part 1
(Stress bucket, stress management techniques, sources of support).
Chapter 3: Self-care – Part 2
(Problem-solving, radical acceptance, managing worries).
Chapter 4: Relationship with loved one
(Communication, validation, boundaries).
Carers have a wide range of roles including providing assistance with daily activities, emotional and financial support and co-ordinate care alongside many others. However, this role can have an impact on the carers themselves, highlighting the need for support. This handbook contains information which may be helpful for you to understand whilst a loved one is unwell or in hospital alongside information about self-care, problem solving and communication. Each chapter focuses on a different topic and contains information, some videos which help explain different concepts and some tasks. You can work through it at your own pace.
