A recent competition, hosted by Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services at Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, invited amateur photographers, aged up to 18, to tell the story of connection through creative photography. The initiative encouraged participants to capture their voice and experiences; showcasing what connection means to them and the strong impact it can have on mental health.
Following many impactful entries, three independent judges selected six winners and runners up who saw their work celebrated in a special exhibition launched at St Barbe Museum and Art Gallery in Lymington on Tuesday 25 November. The exhibition will run until Monday 5 January 2026, helping to support important conversations about mental health amongst children, young people, and their families.
Each of the winners also received a prize generously donated from Nony Kerr-Smiley Freelance Estate Agents in Winchester.
Daisy Barnley, one of the winners whose work is on display at the gallery, said: "I took inspiration from a photographer called Francesca Woodman. Their work is all about showcasing emotion, especially women's emotions, and I really took inspiration from that.”
Helen Dove, Lead for Innovations and Participation for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in Hampshire, said: “A heartfelt thank you to all the local businesses whose generous donations made this event possible. Our gratitude also extends to all the incredible children and young people who submitted entries. The creativity was inspiring, with each photo showcasing a unique interpretation of the theme. It’s wonderful to see these on display knowing the positive influence they will have on local communities.”
