Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Quality in Care (QiC) Diabetes Award 2025 for its groundbreaking initiative, “Empowering Diabetes Self-Management Through Blended Learning Innovation.”
This award recognises excellence in improving the lives of people living with diabetes, and the winning entry reflects the commitment to helping individuals build the skills, knowledge, and confidence to manage their health and wellbeing effectively.
Developed in response to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the programme combines digital tools with face-to-face support, creating a flexible and accessible learning experience for people with diabetes. By embracing innovation and collaboration, the programme has empowered thousands to take control of their condition and improve their quality of life.
Georgette Alayyan, Dietetic and Education Lead, said: "We are thrilled to receive this recognition. It’s a testament to the creativity, dedication, and compassion of our entire team, who work tirelessly to make a real difference for people living with diabetes."
The judges commented that the programme was “robust and very strong on equality and diversity. They liked that it was available in different languages, had a great design and they could see the passion behind it. It delivered in different locations and communities, giving great outreach, plus they had really thought about the environmental impact.”
The QiC Diabetes Awards celebrate initiatives that demonstrate outstanding quality and innovation in diabetes care across the UK. Winning this award aligns with the Trust's Strategy 2025-30, specifically demonstrating a commitment to deliver outstanding care by enabling people with diabetes to confidently manage their condition long term. This work and award win also contributes to another strategic aim in improving population health outcomes for all, regardless of where someone lives.
