Lymington Hospital celebrates the opening of state-of-the-art technology in Radiology

8 January 2026

The Radiology team at Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust recently celebrated the opening of newly upgraded X-ray rooms at Lymington New Forest Hospital, equipped with state-of-the-art technology to enhance patient care. These modern facilities feature advanced imaging equipment designed to deliver higher-quality X-ray images for more accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Among the new equipment is an updated orthopantomogram (OPG) machine – a specialised dental X-ray device that produces a panoramic image of the teeth, upper and lower jaws and surrounding structures.

In the Fluoroscopy suite, the installation of the Artis Zee system brings exceptional flexibility for both routine procedures and complex interventions. Its innovative rotation function even allows patients to remain standing during scans, ensuring greater accessibility and comfort.

Jack Oldbury, X-ray Lead Radiographer, said “The new rooms are brilliant for staff as the machines require much less manual handling than the previous kit. Often, you just hold a button and they move to the required position – minimising the risk of long-term musculoskeletal (MSK) problems for staff.”

Paula Anderson, Chief Finance Officer, formally opened the rooms at the event. She said: “It’s wonderful to see the new equipment at Lymington New Forest Hospital. Having these facilities in a community hospital allows patients in South-West Hampshire to receive diagnosis closer to their homes, working towards our strategic aim of improving access to care. Thank you to all who made this project possible.”
